The tundra surrounding St. Mary's in the Fall is brilliant. Rachel's drawing has captured a small part of it as it really is.

The work here has been chosen to show the effect that this visually stunning place in bush Alaska has on the senses of those who are natives of this Yup'ik village, and those who have come to it from the Outside. The tundra, trees, snow, sky, hills, rivers, wildlife, and Alaskan light surround us, and are seen in many ways. It is pleasing that there are young people here who are absorbing and reflecting the beauty of St. Mary's', and that it is also an inspiration to practicing artists.
