"Autumn Tundra Color"-pencil drawing by Rachel




The tundra surrounding St. Mary's in the Fall is brilliant. Rachel's drawing has captured a small part of it as it really is.

Nathan is a seer, a rare teenager here who observes his environment with delight (sometimes) and who is beginning to take pride in creating visual images of it with his art. "Willows, Snow, and Sky"-acrylic and oil pastel on canvas, by Susan Lince


Painting from a photograph becomes necessary at times in this climate. A  "plein air" painting would have required setting up an easel in the deep snow, and maintaining control of paint consistency and fingers in below zero temperatures.
